An Egyptian tourist was immediately arrested and then deported after kicking an airport sniffer dog into the air when it alerted its handlers to one of his bags.

Hamed Ramadan Bayoumy Aly Marie, 70, kicked beagle Freddie at Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia as he waited for his baggage to arrive after landing from Cairo.

Freddie had zero’d in on one of Hamed’s bags, and detected more than 100lbs worth of prohibited food inside his luggage.

Inside was 55 pounds of beef meat, 44 pounds of rice, 15 pounds of eggplant, cucumbers and bell peppers, two pounds of corn seeds, and a pound of herbs. All stuff he could have bought in the States, so not sure why he’d run such a stupid risk, let alone then kick a dog that’s just doing its job. I mean, what next? Bringing weed into Amsterdam?

Still images show the kick sent Freddie up on his hind legs and into the air:

Definitely not the first time this man has kicked a dog, that’s for sure.

After being taken to the vet, Freddie was found to have suffered contusions on his right forward rib area.

Hamed Ramadan Bayoumy Aly Marie was ordered to pay the vet fees, which is a nice touch, before being deported from the US back to Egypt. Which I think is one deportation everyone can get behind. I mean, kicking a dog? Can’t be having that in any civilised society.

Christine Waugh, CBP’s Area Port Director for the Area Port of Washington, D.C, said: ‘Being caught deliberately smuggling well over one hundred pounds of undeclared and prohibited agriculture products does not give one permission to violently assault a defenseless Customs and Border Protection beagle.

‘We rely heavily on our K9 partners and Freddie was just doing his job. Any malicious attack on one of us is an attack on all of us, and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) will continue to work with our investigating and prosecuting partners to deal swift and severe justice to perpetrators.’

The CBP said: ‘CBP’s Beagles Brigade plays a vital role in screening passengers and cargo to prevent the introduction of harmful plant pests and foreign animal disease from entering the U.S.

‘Animal and plant diseases and invasive pests and weeds have cost nations millions to billions of dollars in eradication measures and lost revenues.’

That’s all well and good, but is Freddie going to get his workers’ compensation?

More importantly – does Mr. Hamed receive a permanent ban from America, or does he get to fill in another form and come back in the future? Hopefully it’s the former.
