Lara Abdallat is probably someone you should know about, she won Miss Jordan in 2010 and was the runner-up in Miss Arab in 2011. She was also a member of the Hacktivist group Anonymous until very recently, however now she’s joined the break away group Ghost Security, a group of online activist who liaise with the US Government via intermediary Kronos Advisory Group. So yeah, she’s pretty cool as fuck.

As an Anonymous Hacker, Abdallat was involved in the identifying and targeting of ISIS affiliated social media accounts earlier in November, which led to the suspension of 900 Twitter profiles as part of Anonymous’s war against ISIS.

Now she’s at Ghost Security: a break away group of Anonymous who monitor terrorists’ online activity and report it to authorities.

They differ from Anonymous in that they want to work with authorities, as opposed to utilising the vigilante style methods of Anonymous, which sees ISIS affiliated profiles and websites targeted with distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks – basically flooding a website with traffic to take it offline – forcing the extremists onto other, usually more secure channels like the messaging app Telegram.

Abdallat reportedly contributed to preventing a potential attack in Tunisia and severed two Islamic State web platforms which were used to distribute information among the group.

Recalling thwarting the potential attack, Ms Abdallat said:

Everyone realised that while we were capturing accurate threat data, it was useless without ground assets to act on information.

Our executive director DigitaShadow has been working with US counterterrorism officials for several months and it has opened many doors for us, we are now able to influence real world actions on the battlefield.

Ghost Security’s mission is to:

Eliminate the online presence of Islamic extremist groups such as Islamic State, Al-Qaeda, Al-Nusra, Boko Haram and Al-Shabaab in an effort to stymie their recruitment and limit their ability to organise international terrorist efforts.

As a member of Ghost Security, Abdallat won’t be focusing so much on viagra related hack ads, but more on listening and learning about the crucial inner workings of Islamist extremist groups, noting the shakers and movers and quashing attacks before they happen – with the help of the US government who are in a position to act meaningfully on the information.

She’s also a beauty queen, so, there’s that.
