Superhero movies are all the rage these days – I think they’re pretty much guaranteed to be the biggest movies of the summer now, unless you release shit like The Green Lantern or The Green Hornet – and I love it because I’m a massive comic book fan and it’s great to see some of these stories get the recognition they deserve, especially if it gets more people into comic books themselves.
What a lot of people don’t know is that often times in comic books they might take a particular character and give him his own short spin off series where he (or she) is involved in a noir kind of storyline. It’s not in regular continuity and is just a bit of fun, but it’s real interesting and cool to see characters like Wolverine and Deadpool embark on a mission through the seedy underbelly of the world rather than just fighting sentinels or Magneto or whoever.
With that in mind, Marko Manev has created a whole bunch of noir-esque movie posters for a bunch of your favourite superheroes. Sure, they’re not exactly in classic noir situations and tend to just be doing their regular thing, but it’s a great idea and the imagery is stark, powerful and intriguing like all great noir should be.
