Captain Tom’s laps around the garden and the money he raised for the NHS was one of the feel good moments of the pandemic which pretty much united the country at a very difficult time – yes OK, the NHS should probably be supported by the government but let’s not worry about that – so it stands to reason that if somebody wanted to be really controversial then defacing his memorial is probably the way to go.

This was exactly the mentality of climate activist Maddie Budd over the weekend when she decided to pour liquid human poop and urine all over said memorial in an attempt to get the government to abolish private jets in the UK. Not really sure how doing that might help in respect to that particular outcome, but there you go.

Anyway, here’s footage of the incident and Maddie trying to justify her actions:

Yeah I can’t say that I’m actually too sympathetic for that because it seems like it going to offend way more people and turn them against her cause rather than promote it. I suppose that everyone is talking about it now and that was one her goals, but I’m not really sure it was worth the cost?

Anyway, Budd was arrested for criminal damage yesterday by 18 policemen whilst she was out in Waterloo Bridge. Her dad has also said that he’s really disappointed in her, so it doesn’t seem like it’s going too well for her.

Maybe Liz Truss will announce at the Tory Party Conference that she’ll abolish private jets now because of her actions though? Stay tuned.

For more of the same, check out this special gin that Captain Tom launched when he was still alive. Pretty legendary.
