When it comes to domestic abuse, more often that not we’re assuming that it’s probably going to be the male partner that is more dominant and physically hurting their weaker female partner – it’s important to remember that this isn’t always the case though and this is shown in the video below.

Alex Skeel sounds like he was totally and utterly psychologically destroyed by his girlfriend Jordan Worth as she refused to let him sleep in their bed, refused to let him eat their food, isolated him from this family and friends and even took over his Facebook account for a time. When police found him in the video below, he had also been stabbed and scalded with hot water. The police said that Alex was just days away from death, the extent of the abuse he had suffered was so serious.

All of this will be highlighted in a new documentary that airs on the BBC tomorrow called ‘Abused By My Girlfriend’. Alex had this to say about why he made the documentary:

I believe the reason I survived to tell the tale is to help others in a similar situation.

I stood up at the time to tell my story, to highlight that domestic abuse happens to guys as well. I am so happy that the BBC has now chosen to commission this film and to give such a public platform for the subject.

Hopefully, this awareness will help more victims. I’m not doing it for me. Publicity for the cause is what drives me. I don’t want one more person to suffer what I’ve gone through.

Help is available, you will be believed.

I mean yeah, fair play to him for standing up and trying to raise awareness for issues like this as I know for a fact that a hell of a lot of men wouldn’t speak up or do anything about suffering behaviour like this for fear of being seen as a weakass loser. That needs to change.

If you’re wondering what happened to Jordan, I think you’ll be pleased to hear that she was sent to prison for seven and a half years for grievous bodily harm with intent and coercive and controlling behaviour after pleading guilty. She was the first woman in the UK to be convicted of this crime and it just goes to show that the narrative is on its way to being changed.

For more of the same, check out Jeremy Kyle helping out another man who suffered from domestic abuse. Actually pretty badass segment.
