I think everyone knows that the US police force subscribes to the mantra of ‘shoot first, ask questions later’, but even the most cynical of us out there will probably look at the video below and struggle to believe that it’s actually real.

The video in question shows police in Huntington Park, California pursuing a double amputee suspect and then shooting him eight times as he jumps out of wheelchair and tries to get away from them by waddling along on his stumps. In fairness to them if we want to play devil’s advocate, then the guy was holding a butcher’s knife as he had just stabbed someone, but I’m sure they could probably have managed to disarm him without shooting and killing him. He’s an amputee FFS.

The suspect was tased at lease twice by Huntington Park Officers but the deployment of the taser was ineffective.

The suspect attempted to throw the butcher knife at the officers again, resulting in an officer-involved shooting.

Eh I would kinda think if he had attempted to throw the butcher knife at officers then he had missed and was probably unarmed at that point too? That’s just America though I guess.

Anyway, double amputee Anthony Lowe Jr might not have deserved to die but he doesn’t sound like he was that great a guy anyway. He had only recently lost the use of his legs following a separate altercation with police in Galveston, Texas and on this day had randomly stabbed someone for no reason and left them with a collapsed lung. Not saying that he deserved to get shot here, but he’s perhaps a little less innocent than some of the people that you hear about getting murdered by police.

Absolutely nuts that a bunch of policeman felt so threatened by a guy with a knife and no legs that they had to shoot him dead though. ‘Merica.
