There’s that moment when you make friends with a girl/woman and you think she’s pretty cool or whatever and then you end up seeing her naked – maybe when you first have sex with her if you’re lucky, or maybe just when she wears a bikini or something – and all those preconceptions about her are shattered when you see that she’s got a tramp stamp on her lower back.

Of course, tramp stamps (not sure that they’ve ever really had another name?) were all the rage back in the early 00s, but whatever air of mystery and sexuality that they originally projected was very quickly eliminated and replaced with the odour of general sluttiness mixed with white trash. Pretty sure that most girls from that era have had them removed or never get them out these day, or at least not without rolling their eyes and saying something like ‘I know, one too many tequilas’. There’s a reason that one piece bathing costumes have soared in popularity in the over 30s market.

Anyway, I’m not really sure why – maybe because all the people with tramp stamps now have young kids that have grown up staring at them all their lives and think they’re beautiful? – but apparently the art form is now making a resurgence thanks to Generation Z. Here’s a TikTok of an influencer named Callie Wilson saying that she’s going to get a tramp stamp that has 4 million views and mostly positive/wholesome responses to it.:

If only they knew huh? This narrative is also backed up by Toronto-based tattoo artist Carisa Fitoussi, who said the following about their re-emergence:

People just don’t care anymore.

In the last two, three years, a lot of people have been getting them.

I’ve always loved them, regardless of the stereotype behind them.

So l was always open to doing them. I think it’s so cute.

I lean more toward that since I grew up seeing my mom dressed a certain way so I love everything Y2K.

A lot of my clients that come and get s-xually liberating tattoos like that, they know people around them judge.

But, it doesn’t matter. Because regardless of what you do, you’re gonna get judged.

So if it’s something that makes you feel good, makes you feel more sexy, you might as well just get it.

Tramp stamps are ‘in’ right now.

But I bet you in like a year or two, it’s gonna go back down to like, people not really liking it, and then pick back up again.

First of all how old is this woman? She said she grew up loving seeing her mom dressed in a certain way so is really into all that Y2K stuff, so is she like twenty herself or something? Not that that really matters, it just adds a bit more context to her opinion doesn’t it.

Anyway, I suppose it isn’t that surprising that tramp stamps are back in because like Carisa says, these trends come and go. Probably more strange that it’s taken so long for them to come back. Can’t wait to hit the beach next year and check them all out. 2023 baby – the year of the tramp stamp.

For more of the same, check out when Ben Affleck got a tramp stamp tattoo after his divorce. Surprised they didn’t make a comeback around that time as well.
