9 – Angelina Jolie – A Mighty Heart (2007)
The film based upon the struggle of Mariane Pearl to find justice for her kidnapped husband, reporter Daniel Pearl. Mariane, a woman born in France of Afro-Chinese-Cuban descent, is played by Angelina Jolie, who had her skin darkened, hair afro-tised and irises covered up with soulless brown discs that I think they reused for Bruce Willis in Looper.
Surely a real opportunity for a a mixed-raced actor to get a chance to put herself on a map playing such a strong woman – not when Brad Pitt is producing – cue Tomb Raider taking her place as the mighty hearted Mariane. To be fair to old Ange though, it is rumoured that Pearl asked for Jolie specifically because she knew more people would watch it if she was in it and the story would reach more people aka. make more money.
