We don’t tend to post much about wrestling on Sick Chirpse these days – although we did share a video of Jeff Hardy almost breaking his neck performing a swanton bomb yesterday – but when a legend of the business shows up out of nowhere on a new wrestling show then you’ve really gotta make an exception.

Sting is undoubtedly one of the most influential and famous wrestlers of all time, so for AEW to tempt him out of retirement is another massive coup for the up and coming federation. His debut was completely unexpected as he interrupted a beatdown from Team Taz on the Nightmare Family and well, you’ll see when you watch the clip below:

Wow. That was pretty epic wasn’t it, even if Sting didn’t actually do anything except come down to the ring and stare people out with his baseball bat. That is kind of his MO though so I’m not sure what else we would really expect from the guy. The awesome creepy stadium rock music really made it though, as did Tony Schiavone’s emotional commentary. A real magic moment in the history of wrestling.

Sadly though, Sting is actually 61 years old now and last wrestled at Wrestlemania in 2015 where he suffered a career ending injury at the hands of Seth Rollins, so it seems unlikely that we’ll be seeing him in the ring any time soon to actually wrestle a match. AEW are apparently intending on making him a regular character on TV, so it’ll be interesting to see what kind of role he’ll play. Can see a few people getting trapped in the Scorpion Deathlock for sure.

For more of the same, check out when Sting made his debut in the WWE alongside The Dudley Boyz a few years ago. That was electric too.
