Snoop Dogg has landed himself in a bit of hot water with the LGBTQ+ community following his comments about watching Disney’s ‘Lightyear’ at the cinema with his grandson.

After seeing a same-sex couple in the film and having to endure questions from his baffled grandson, Snoop say she’s now “scared to go to the movies”:

“What you see is what you see, and they’re putting it everywhere. I didn’t come in for this s***. I just came to watch the goddamn movie.”

“My grandson, in the middle of the movie is like, ‘Papa Snoop? How she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman!'”

“I’m like, scared to go to the movies. Y’all throwing me in the middle of s*** that I don’t have an answer for.”

“It threw me for a loop,. I’m like, ‘What part of the movie was this?’ These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions. I don’t have the answer.”

Pretty funny, but also an important debate. Many parents would agree with Snoop that this sort of thing should not be in children’s movies, and that it’s outrageous for kids to be put into a situation where they’re asking about sexuality because of an animated film. Some people are straight-up calling it Hollywood indoctrination!

Others believe it wouldn’t have been a big deal for Snoop Dogg to explain the concept of same-sex relationships, or adoption or even artificial insemination to his young grandson. After all, this is the guy who once rapped: “I got b***hes in the living room, getting it on, and they ain’t leaving till six in the morning” and “I got a pocket full of rubbers and my homeboys do too.” Try explaining that one to your grandson!

I guess you can’t expect a 90s gangster rapper to be the most “progressive” guy on the planet when it comes to LGBT representation in kids’ movies, but in fairness, it doesn’t seem to be a popular approach with people in general. Remember when the sex references in Disney films were subtle? Those were the days.
