2022 was a great year for horror movies with ‘Terrifier 2’ taking a whole bunch of plaudits for making people throw up and pass out in the cinema, but it looks like the scariest movie of 2023 might be taking a different approach to messing us up.

‘Skinamarink’ is a movie that plays on people’s fear of the dark when they’re lying in bed and unable to sleep. I imagine most of us are over that at this point of our lives, but there are still times when you think something might be moving or changing shape out of the corner of your eye – you just know better these days.

Anyway, the movie takes place in 1995 where two young siblings — Kevin and Kaylee — wake in the middle of the night to find that their father has disappeared along with all the windows and doors in their house. There’s also a scary croaking voice coming from the corner of the room trying to communicate with them and ultimately forcing them to commit acts of violence against one another.

Take a look at the extra creepy trailer below:

Geez I was watching that at 11am in the morning and it still filled me with dread over what the actual movie might end up looking like. Genuinely unsettling and apparently follows no conventional  filmmaking rules which probably means I’ll either love it or absolutely hate it.

Excited to check it out come January though. It’s currently only received a US release date but should be streaming on Shudder sometime next year. Yikes.

For more of the same, check out these extremely close up pictures of insects that look like something out of a horror movie. Severely messed up.
