Sage Northcutt has been heavily hyped in the UFC since his debut last year and looked like he was going to be the real deal – check out some of his highlights packages here – but the hype train got derailed on Saturday night after he tapped out to Bryan Barbarena after three minutes of round two.

The submission has been heavily criticised by UFC fans across the world as it kind of makes Northcutt look like a pussy because Barbarena’s triangle arm choke didn’t look as if it was fully locked in at all. Everyone watching the fight seemed particularly surprised when Northcutt tapped too, including the commentators as it just didn’t look like the move that was going to finish him off.

Ooof. I probably don’t know as much about UFC as some people who read this, but that did look kinda lame. Pretty awesome diss at the end as well.

Northcutt now moves to 7-1 whilst Barberena moves to 11-4. It’ll be interesting to see what the UFC does with Northcutt now because it’s obviously a major blow to his build up and does make him look half the contender he was before the fight. Let’s hope he gets back on track and trains even harder for his next fight.

I mean it was only a few months ago when he got a knockout within 57 seconds of his UFC debut. Bet that seems like a long time ago now eh?
