Yesterday, we saw the world record broken for the fastest time someone could eat a pie and today we’re seeing the world record broken for the biggest pizza ever made.

The stunt was pulled by Pizza Hut who somehow managed to make a pizza that was 14,000 square feet in diameter, smashing the previous record of a 13,580 square foot pizza that was cooked up in Rome back in 2012. Pizza Hut teamed up with YouTuber Airrack and used the floor of the Los Angeles Convention Centre for the base as it was literally the only space that was big enough to contain it all.

The legendary pizza used up 13,653 pounds of dough, over 8,800 pounds of cheese. 4,948 pounds of marinara sauce and 630,000 slices of pepperoni. Obviously it had to be cooked in separate pieces and then assembled on site before it could break the world record because there isn’t a pizza oven even a fraction of the size of a pizza that humongous.

Take a look at the video detailing the process below:

Wow. So you’re probably wondering why Pizza Hut decided to do this and it turns out it was a stunt to celebrate the return of their ‘Big New Yorker Pizza’. Sure everyone is going to remember that and be well aware of it now and not just forget about it in a couple of days. Definitely worth the marketing budget and manpower utilised for this stunt.

In fairness to Pizza Hut, they did end up donating the 68,000 slices to local charities which I assume mean that a lot of homeless and underprivileged people end up getting fed loads of pizza which is pretty awesome. Still seems like a massive waste of time to do something like this for the ‘Big New Yorker’, but maybe sales will end up going through the roof for it? Might have just been more effective just having a dumb looking guy talking about it in a New York accent. You never know.

For more of the same, check out this Scottish guy who ordered a Domino’s with all 25 toppings. What a madman.
