Peterborough Women’s Team Slams Fans For ‘Sexualising’ Two Of Their Players

There are two players who play for the Petersborough women’s team who get 50k likes, 5 million views, and floods of comments on social media every time they score a goal. Could it be the unreal quality of their goals? Their football tekkers in general? Shouts for Balon D’or?

Nope, unfortunately, it’s just that Tara Mae Kirk and Keir Perkins are fit:

And the types of comments we’re dealing with:

It happens so often that the team put out a Tweet condemning commenters for sexualising the players:

“Peterborough United Football Club strongly condemn all forms of social media abuse and are appalled by some of the comments aimed at our players over the weekend on X. We would like to reiterate that anyone involved in making or sharing such comments will be reported and are not welcomed in interacting with our football club on any level.”

“We will continue to support the players who have received any social media abuse and work with governing bodies to find a solution to stamping out any future abuse. The welfare of our players is paramount and will always be our priority. We hope social media companies will put the relevant legislation in place to stop any form of abuse from happening moving forward.”

In fairness, when I checked out the comments it seemed the vast majority were from genuine football fans who weren’t commenting on the girls’ looks at all, so I’m surprised the club have come out with this statement. Although I guess it’s also a savvy move in that it will draw more eyes to the club and their socials, which are already on fire anytime certain players score.

Also I don’t know if they know how Twitter X works but there’s no way ‘reporting’ any of those Tweets is going to do anything, but fair play to them for calling it out all the same. You can’t have a team that’s second in the league being sexualised when they’re smashing teams every week, can you? Go Posh Women Go!
