Paul Dano Responds To Quentin Tarantino Dissing Him: ‘Incredibly Grateful The World Spoke Up for Me So I Didn’t Have To’
A couple months back, Quentin Tarantino ripped into actor Paul Dano (Prisoners/The Batman/There Will Be Blood), saying some surprisingly harsh things about him during his rundown of his Top 20 Movies Of the 21st Century.
Focusing particularly on There Will Be Blood, Tarantino not only said he didn’t like Dano’s performance, he also called him “weak sauce” and “the weakest f***ing actor in the SAG [Screen Actors Guild].” He claimed Dano is the sole reason keeping There Will Be Blood from being the greatest film of the 21st century.
Here’s the full quote:
Obviously everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but this is pretty shocking to read as Dano has more than established himself as a solid actor in films like Little Miss Sunshine, Prisoners, The Batman and more. Well fortunately for Paul Dano, he didn’t even have to stand up for himself because so many other people – from fellow actors to film fans – did it for him, with basically everyone apart from Tarantino agreeing that Dano is more than worthy of his acting success (and apparently a top bloke too).
This week, Dano has finally addressed the situation when speaking to Variety.
Ahead of a 20th anniversary screening of “Little Miss Sunshine” at this week’s Sundance Film Festival, Dano was asked about Tarantino’s comment but was beaten to the punch by co-star Toni Collette, who said: “Are we really going there? F**k that guy! He must’ve been high… it was just confusing. Who does that?”
Dano added: “That was really nice. I was also incredibly grateful that the world spoke up for me so I didn’t have to.”
Tarantintino has also previously dissed Owen Wilson, Matthew Lilard and once said the first season of True Detective was “really boring”! WTF? Literally one of the best seasons of television in history.
Well, again, everyone is entitled to their opinion, especially a guy like Tarantino who has made so many legendary films. Here’s his Top 20 of the 21st century list in full, if you’re interested:
