Paraguayan Footballer Flying Kicks Referee In The Face

So yeah, here’s something you don’t see on the pitch every day. Or even once a year.

It went down in Paraguay last weekend in a match that was going on there between Coronel Romero and Porvenir. I’m not sure who these teams are or what division they play in but I think it’s safe to say from the footage and the crowd that it isn’t the main league over there, but I really don’t know.

Anyway, the action picks up in the clip where the pacy Coronel Romero winger is taking it towards the corner flag where he gets cynically taken out by the Porvenir defender and he gets given a straight red. Obviously some of the Porvenir players aren’t happy and rush over to the ref to argue and he immediately sends two of them off too, which is probably a bit of an overreaction (the ref seems like a prick to be fair – you know one of those refs that just thinks they’re the shit and the main event and can’t wait to get a red card out if anyone does anything vaguely untoward in a game? You know the ones.) but then the reaction of the Porvenir player is a DEFINITE overreaction.

He just kinda runs at the referee an does some kind of weird jumping falling kick and nails him right in the face. It’s a pretty impressive effort and it looks like it would properly nail the ref. I’m not sure what happened to the dude following this but the game was abandoned after that incident and Coronel Romero were awarded the win as they were winning 2-0 at the time.
