If you had just inherited $30 million, you’d hope you would at least have the chance to spend some of it before being poisoned to death by your significant other. Tragically, this one man out of North Dakota did not get to spend a single penny!

Ina Thea Kenoyer, 47, has been charged with killing her boyfriend, 51-year-old Steven Riley Jr, by poisoning him just hours after he’d inherited a cool $30 million (£20m). She is said to have given him the poison after learning that he planned to break up with her and run off with his inheritance.

According to the NY Post, Ms Kenover then claimed to investigators that they had a common-law marriage, suggesting she was now entitled to some of that cash. Just one problem with that – she didn’t Google ‘North Dakota Law’, which would have showed her that North Dakota doesn’t recognise common-law marriage. What an idiot!

Based on the investigation, police say Riley fell ill on September 3 after he met with his lawyer to collect the $30 million. Riley went home, went to bed, and was unresponsive the next day. That’s when Kenover decided to call 911, but by that point it was obviously too late. Post-mortem results revealed that he had ingested antifreeze, and it didn’t take too long to work out who the responsible party was.

For what it’s worth, Kenover told investigators that she planned to split the $30m inheritance with Riley’s son, but it sounds like that lad will be getting all of it now.

I wish there was more information on where the $30m actually came from, because Kenover does not look like a guy that would inherit that amount of money, but unfortunately there’s no further details. All in all, it’s just tragic that he never got the opportunity to enjoy it, even if his plan was to dump his girlfriend and go on an around-the-world bender with a harem of Instagram models or something. She could have at least given him 2-3 weeks to live it up and then see what happens after that.

Absolutely diabolical stuff, and even sadder that she didn’t realise she would get caught out. Oh well, enjoy your daddy’s fortune, Mr. Riley’s son.
