If you’re going to join a Mexican drug cartel, as a man or a monkey, you have to know that 9 times out of 10 it’s going to end in tears. Unfortunately for spider monkey ‘El Changuito’, that’s exactly how it panned out after he was killed alongside 11 cartel members in a deadly shooting in the town of Texcaltitlan, Mexico.

As per the Mirror, the monkey’s owner was among the dead, with the pair both members of Mexico’s infamous La Familia Michoacana. Even a bulletproof vest and rad camouflage jacket couldn’t save the poor fella… (warning = dead monkey images below)

The internet is reacting to news of El Changuito’s demise in much the same way it reacted to Harambe’s untimely death, but I’m not so sure there’s any parallels to be drawn here aside from the fact they were both monkeys. This monkey was a drug dealer! He’s probably killed a man! All Harambe did was be cute and mind his own business. Let’s not forget that just because he was found riddled with bullets while wearing nappies and an adorable mini bulletproof vest (which did sweet F all for him at the end).

Then again it’s not El Changuito’s fault he was recruited into a Mexican drug cartel from a young age. Who knows how many other monkeys there are out there being groomed into the same life? It’s too sad to even think about. RIP Changuito – gone but undoubtedly never forgotten, thanks to our precious internet.
