A man who munches 13 bowls of cereal a day topped with 138 spoons of sugar is reaching out for help after realising his addiction could kill him.

Philip Patrick, 19, says he had a healthy and varied diet until he left home 3 years ago and developed his obsessive habit. In fact Philip now ONLY eats cereal — mostly Weetabix and cornflakes — topped with stupid amounts of sugar, and schedules his cereal binges around his favourite TV shows.

He also washes the cereals down with cups of tea — with six sugars.

Philip, who lives with his partner and young son, reckons he’s eaten 14,235 bowls of cereal in the last 3 years; six boxes and 15 pints of milk a week and a 5kg bag of sugar every 9 days.

He’s packed on four stone in the last 3 years and says he’s been left with barely enough energy to walk up the stairs and can’t bring himself to go out for dinner or meals with his family.

I don’t want to mock Philip for his cereal addiction. Cereal is exactly the kind of thing you’d expect a 19-year-old father of one to be addicted to. What I don’t get is all the extra sugar he puts on top. 138 spoons of sugar a day and that’s not even counting the 6 he puts in each cup of tea. That is literally insane.

Why eat cornflakes with sugar on top anyway? Wouldn’t it be easier to just buy the frosted ones? Seems like a stupid and unnecessary move but then we are dealing with someone who eats 13 bowls of cereal a day here.

Who knows? Maybe the sugar is what’s actually keeping Philip alive. The guy’s like the Scarface of the cereal world.
