It came to a lot of people’s attention last week that the Amazon rain forest had been on fire for the last three weeks and didn’t really show any signs of going out and now the focus in the world has turned to how exactly we can sort this massive problem out.

Unfortunately, it seems to have turned into a massive dick swinging contest between the world’s politicians again. Trump insists he’s an environmentalist but didn’t bother showing up to a special G7 meeting convened to talk about how they were going to deal with the issue, and Brazil are now set to reject the $22 million offer of aid that the G7 committee did eventually agree upon sending over to them, on account that they feel they’re only offering it because they want control of the Amazon. Excellent work there guys.

Fortunately, there is one night in shining armour out there and he goes by the name of Leonardo DiCaprio. Leo has been vocal about his concerns about climate change in the past and so it’s no real surprise that his new foundation the Earth Alliance – that he runs alongside billionaire Brian Sheth and Steve Jobs’ widow Lauren Powell Jobs – have agreed to donate $5million to the cause.

They announced their donation in an Instagram post where they encouraged others to do the same:

#EarthAlliance, launched in July by @LeonardoDiCaprio, Laurene Powell Jobs, and Brian Sheth, has formed an emergency Amazon Forest Fund with a commitment of $5 million dollars to focus critical resources for indigenous communities and other local partners working to protect the life-sustaining biodiversity of the Amazon against the surge of fires currently burning across the region. Join Us. 100 percent of your donation will go to partners who are working on the ground to protect the Amazon. Earth Alliance is committed to helping protect the natural world. We are deeply concerned about the ongoing crisis in the Amazon, which highlights the delicate balance of climate, biodiversity, and the wellbeing of indigenous peoples. Good for them I suppose, although it does seem a little skanky that they’re donating $5 million when they’re probably worth something like a trillion dollars between them. At least they’re helping though.

Slightly suspicious that the Brazilian president isn’t worried about their motives regarding the Amazon either as opposed to those of the G7. Sure, we would all love to believe that they’re genuinely concerned with the Amazon, but the world doesn’t really work like that, does it?

Anyway, Leo spends most of his time vaping and having sex with girls whilst wearing headphones, so maybe he really does care about that other stuff?
