Yesterday we blogged about Kanye West’s new song in which he samples 1997 Backstreet Boys classic ‘Everybody (Backstreet’s Back), and joked that Ye probably didn’t even bother clearing the sample and just used it without asking.

Well, according to TMZ, it turns out this is actually true, which is a shame because the song sounds like a certified banger:

Looking into it a little more, it turns out the Backstreet Boys didn’t write the song and don’t even own the masters to it, so Ye would need clearance from the publishers, which is what he’s neglected to do. Obviously someone who’s been in the game as long as he has would know this perfectly well, so it’s just classic Kanye that he’s decided to go ahead anyway and even pre-save the track to Spotify and Amazon Music and all these other platforms ahead of his new album release this Friday, December 15.

Lol. Clearly a ‘we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it’ kinda guy. Would it even be a new Ye album release without a bunch of dramas accompanying it?

Meanwhile, Kanye’s daughter North West also features on the album with her own verse on one of the tracks. Here she is performing it at the Vultures listening party the other night:

Seems that Drake’s 6-year-old has some competition on his hands.
