One of the biggest disappointments with the Marvel Cinematic Universe – or television universe, whatever – was the decision by Netflix to cancel their Marvel properties.

Whilst nobody was really that bothered about ‘Iron First’, ‘Luke Cage’ and ‘Jessica Jones’ heading off, there was a sizeable amount of people that had been stoked on ‘Daredevil’ and ‘The Punisher’ and were sad to see them go. So, there’s always talk going on in the background about those two series possibly being revived in the future now that Marvel has the rights to those characters back.
One man who thinks that this is a definite possibility is The Punisher himself Jon Bernthal, who said the following to ComicBook recently:
It’s unbelievably humbling how much people sort of responded to this version of Frank, and I can’t tell you how much it means to me because he means so much to me. He’s in my blood, he’s in my bones.
So it’s not about whether we do it, it’s about getting it right, and doing the version that the fans really deserve. We’ll see. I mean, all of those decisions are made in rooms I am not invited into… But Frank’s always there, he’s always a part of me.
And when we get the call to go, I’ll be ready, and I’ll make sure that I do everything I can to make sure that we do it right, or we won’t do it at all.
He certainly sounds confident and hyped for it doesn’t it? The rumours surrounding the property all concern a one – two year clause in the Netflix contract which says that these characters can’t be seen on screen for that time period after the contract ends, but with this time almost up it seems like a no brainer for Marvel to get the gang back together and make a couple of new series of these shows given how popular they were the last time around.
Hopefully we’ll have some new episodes come 2022. At least we know Jon Bernthal is down.
For more of the same, check out The Punisher showing no mercy in one of the best clips from the series. Really was some fun television.
