The real life story that ‘House of Gucci’ is based on is absolutely nuts. Basically, Gucci inherits the company from his dad and then sues his uncle for full control of the company. In just over 10 years, he runs the company into the ground, selling a huge chunk of it to an investment company and then cashing out a few years later.

Fast forward a couple years and Gucci is gunned down while walking to his office in Milan, with his ex-wife Patrizia Regianni accused of hiring a hitman to kill him. Obviously she denies it, and turns up to every court hearing rocking nothing but Gucci. It eventually turns out she did hire the hitman, partially because she suspected him of cheating but also for destroying his family business. She get sent to prison, tries to kill herself, and is eventually released after 18 years for good behaviour. She now earns £900,000 a year from Gucci’s estate and received £16,000,000 in back payments from her time in prison.

Sounds like a decent premise for a Hollywood blockbuster, no?

The basic synopsis:

The film is set in 1995 and depicts the events and aftermath of the murder of Maurizio Gucci, Italian businessman and head of the fashion house Gucci, by his ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani.

And the star-studded cast:

So seeing as everyone is somewhat familiar with the story already, the trailer doesn’t do much except show us how well shot the movie is. The directing looks great, the acting looks great, the fake Italian accents sound hilarious. Even the song choice (Blondie’s Heart of Glass – classic) is great. What’s not to love?

‘House of Gucci’ is out in November and set to do big numbers given not only its subject but the unbelievable star power of that cast. Should be worth the watch.
