‘Hereditary’ and ‘Midsommar’ are two of the most startling movies I’ve had the pleasure of seeing in recent years, so I’m obviously pretty interested in anything that director Ari Aster is going to be doing in the future.

‘Beau Is Afraid’ doesn’t look like anything I would imagine from the guy though. He’s teamed up with Joaquin Phoenix for a movie that I don’t think I can even begin to describe after looking at the trailer, so I’m not going to try.

Just take a look at it yourself and see what you think:

Yeah, not really sure what that’s about at all, but it looks pretty weird right? I remember when it was first announced that the tagline was ‘a decades spanning portrait of one of the most successful entrepreneurs of all time’, but that trailer doesn’t seem to have anything to do with anything mentioned in that description at all does it?

I also heard that the movie was going to be four hours long and was akin to doing a nightmare acid trip which I can sort of get from looking at the trailer. Not really sure if this is going to be any good or not, but Aster and Phoenix definitely have enough credit in the bank for me to go and see this when it comes out in April.

For more of the same, check out this story about Joaquin Phoenix’s upbringing. Sounds seriously messed up.
