Wayne Simmons, a recurring guest on Fox News who claimed to have 27 years of experience with the CIA was arrested this week after it turned out he’d completely made it up. He was in fact never in the CIA.

Simmons falsely claimed he had worked as an “outside paramilitary special operations officer” for the CIA from 1973 — 2000. He’d often appear on Fox News where they’d refer to him as a “former CIA operative” and “terrorism analyst”.

If the courts want they can give him up to 35 years in prison on charges of major fraud against the US, wire fraud, and making false statements to the government.

No one seems to have a clue how Simmons bullshitted his way onto Fox News so many times, which is even more outrageous when you consider he’d regularly say stuff that wasn’t even true. In January, for example, he said there were “at least 19 paramilitary Muslim training facilities in the United States”.

He also claimed that waterboarding was “not torture” and accused Barack Obama of being a coward — dangerous things to say coming from someone people assume is a veteran CIA man.

Eventually someone grassed Simmons up to US government agencies (who somehow weren’t even aware of his BS spree all this time), after becoming suspicious of him. So at least there’s someone with a brain out there watching.

As we know anyone who pretends to be an army or CIA veteran should be ashamed of themselves and usually get the dressing down they deserve. But most of the time it’s some loser walking around a shopping centre trying to get free coffee or something, not a guy who’s giving “expert opinions” on Fox news every week. I mean that takes some kind of balls to go all-in on a lie like that.

I guess we can chalk that up as another major Fox news fail, like the time they said Birmingham was a “Muslim-only city”. Idiots!
