Ever since Conor McGregor stepped into the boxing ring with Conor McGregor, there have been rumours that they might have a rematch in an MMA context but most people thought that this was just stupid because why would Floyd put his undefeated record on the line in a competition which he was at a severe disadvantage. Makes little to no sense.

Nevertheless, Floyd has announced that he’ll be competing in an MMA federation this New Year’s Eve, although his opponent isn’t going to be anyone near as high profile as McGregor or even Khabib. Instead, Floyd has opted to team up with an MMA federation based out of Japan named the Rizin Fight Federation and will be taking on undefeated 31 year old kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa who currently has a 27-0 record.

The fight has been dubbed a ‘Special Challenge’ match and the rules have not yet been confirmed, so it could be kickboxing, MMA or boxing or for all we know. Probably boxing knowing Floyd, but maybe we’ll see the two trading kicks come New Year’s Eve? Can’t see it myself but you never know.

Floyd had this to say about the bout:

Rizin has done a remarkable job with the fighters.

I look forward to giving you guys entertainment come December 31, but my relationship with Rizin, it doesn’t stop just here.

I look forward to taking this worldwide.

Yeah, it just doesn’t really sound like it’s real really does it? I guess we’ll see what goes down on New Year’s Eve this year but it’s certainly an interesting proposition. We’ll see what happens.
