Joaquin Phoenix’s ‘Joker’ was always meant to be a standalone movie, but after it grossed over a billion dollars worldwide at the box office, the talk quickly became about whether or not a sequel was going to be forthcoming.

Phoenix and director Todd Phillips eventually thrashed out an idea and a deal with Warner Bros and it wasn’t too long until Lady Gaga singed up to play Harley Quinn and rumours started flying around that ‘Joker: Folie A Deux’ would be a musical. No plot details have yet been revealed, but Phillips today revealed that filming for the movie had wrapped and he was heading off to the edit suite to get the movie ready for its release on October 4th next year.

He shared the following Instagram post letting us all know, also sharing pictures of his two stars:

Well there you have it I guess. No new information about what we’re expecting from the film itself but given that Harley Quinn is a psychiatrist who ends up falling in love with the Joker in pretty much every iteration of her character, it’s safe to say that some of the movie will incorporate that storyline.

We’ve also already seen clips of Lady Gaga dressed as Harley dancing down the iconic steps from the first movie so that’s probably going to happen too. Let’s hope they pick a song a bit more appropriate for a movie these days than that Gary Glitter one this time though hey?

For more of the same, check out Jared Leto’s reaction to the success of ‘Joker’. Always found that really funny.
