Fish Man

Darwin Awards - fish costume

Now this one is really weird. It took place in Melbourne, Australia and centres around a man who wanted to be a fish. Neil’s remains were found, badly decomposed in a paddock about a mile from his Toolondo Reservoir holiday home. The police were at a bit of a loss to work it out. Neil’s body was found inside an elaborate fish suit made from thick and heavy water-bed material. There was a long zip down the spine and two eye holes.

The suit ended in a fin type thing which meant his legs couldn’t move, and the suit was so tight around the torso that it restricted his breathing. It’s assumed that he died of asphyxiation and exhaustion.

Locals were less surprised than you’d think when they heard what had happened. They’d apparently seen him wearing a similar outfit and swinging from a tree near the lake fairly regularly. As for the cause of death, it’s still not 100% clear what went down. The body was too decomposed to give up any answers in an autopsy. So I suppose the moral here is to only dress up as a fish when you have someone around to help you out of the costume.

And there endeth today’s lesson children. See you in part 11…
