Brits In Dubai Fear Leaving Because They Might Get Taxed At Home
What’s worse – being bombed into oblivion in the Middle East or having to pay income tax back in the UK? For some Brits over in Dubai, it could be the latter.
As per the Independent, British influencers based in Dubai are reluctant to return home due to fears of being taxed.
An early or unplanned return to the UK could prompt HMRC to reclaim taxing rights on their worldwide income, and that wouldn’t be good for keeping up the lifestyles they enjoy in Dubai, would it?

Dubai generally levies zero per cent tax on personal income for its residents, which is one of the major attractions of living there.
Emirati analyst Amjad Taha told the Financial Times that over 130,000 of the 300,000 Brits living in the Gulf have registered their presence on the government’s safety system, but are declining to fill out evacuation forms provided by the British government “just in case it somehow turns into a tax form instead”.
The UK Foreign Office has not ordered Brits to leave the country but has advised against “all but essential travel” to the UAE.

Most people who live in Dubai only do so for the relative safety and the tax free money, and now the ‘relative safety’ appears to be gone. I guess now it’s all about weighing up the risk of being bombed to death by Iran Vs the potential of losing the tax-free lifestyle.
Many Brits in Dubai are very likely operating businesses, renting homes, or have investments of some description in the UK while living out in the UAE and having to pay no tax on it. That’s a pretty massive privilege to lose, but risking your life for it?
In the meantime, influencers appear to be getting paid to tell you how safe it is still is Dubai…

Guess we’re going to have to take their word for it.
