Boris Johnson Refuses To Take Back Claim That Trump Deserves To Win The Nobel Peace Prize

I think we can all probably agree that Boris Johnson has said a number of stupid things throughout his tenure as Prime Minister – let’s be honest there were definitely loads just in the last week – but he came out with one of the biggest zingers ever yesterday after he refused to take back a comment about Donald Trump deserving to win the Nobel Peace Prize, despite the fact he was just about to be impeached for inciting a riot that bid to overturn democracy.

Jonhson made the original comments back in May 2018 when he was Foreign Secretary, saying the following to Sky News:

If he can fix North Korea, and he can fix the Iran nuclear deal, then I don’t see why he’s any less of a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize than Barack Obama, who got it before he even did anything.

Lol way to throw some shade on Barack Obama there too BoJo. Anyway, that does seem like a perfectly reasonable thing to say at the time, but given recent events over in America, Johnson was asked yesterday if he still agreed with his original comment.

Here’s what he had to say:

I am in favour of the prime minister of the UK having the best possible relationship with the president of the United States and I had an excellent conversation very recently with president-elect Joe Biden.

Geez. Another typical answer where Johnson refuses to concede that there’s ever been a possibility that he’s done or said anything wrong. Why can’t he just answer the question for once?

Wouldn’t it be so much better for I’m just to say something like ‘Yeah, I did say that he would have been a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize if he sorted out the problems in North Korea and the Iran Nuclear Deal back in 2018 which were being talked about at the time, but he didn’t and his recent actions inciting a riot should probably disqualify him from nomination unless he managed to achieve something monumental afterwards’. Sure, it’s another wishy washy answer but at least it goes some way to responding to the question and acknowledging that his comments were a bit misguided with the benefit of hindsight.

Seems so stupid that everyone in the current government acts like this and just alienates the population further and further. So it goes.

For more of the same, check out when Boris won a literal award for talking so much nonsense. You couldn’t make it up.
