Season 6 of Black Mirror may have been a bit of a let-down, but it looks like Netflix are happy to renew the series after confirming Season 7 is in development and will arrive with six new episodes in 2025.

The announcement was made at the Next on Netflix event in London today where they also confirmed that one episode in Season 7 will be a sequel to one of the best Black Mirror episodes ever: Season 4’s USS Callister, which saw Jesse Plemons absolutely smash it as a reclusive computer programmer who builds a Star Trek-like sci-fi world inside a video game to take revenge on his real-life enemies.

Unfortunately Jesse Plemons’s character died in that episode (at least I think he did) so he may not be a part of the sequel episode, but it’s still cool that they’re returning to that universe.

Charlie Brooker and the Black Mirror crew really need to knock it out the park this time though because Season 5 and Season 6 were both rather underwhelming. They’ve still got credit in the bank thanks to how good Season 1 – 4 were, and I appreciate that the real world is becoming harder and harder to satirise these days (especially when it comes to technology). Here’s hoping they’re cooking up some brilliant concepts for Season 7. Can’t wait.
