There are hundreds of conspiracy theorists out there who claim that we are living in a Matrix-style simulated world. Anyone remember Elon Musk sensationally stating that there’s only a “one in billions” chance that we’re not living in a computer simulation?

Up until now there wasn’t much we could do about it, even if it is true. However, turns out that two Silicon Valley tech billionaires have gone so far as to secretly fund scientists to break us out of the computer simulation. They’re essentially looking for the red pill. Writer Tad Friend, who was the first to reveal the project, said in The New Yorker:
Many people in Silicon Valley have become obsessed with the simulation hypothesis, the argument that what we experience as reality is in fact fabricated in a computer.
Two tech billionaires have gone so far as to secretly engage scientists to work on breaking us out of the simulation.

The claim was made in an article about Sam Altman, an entrepreneur who runs a firm called Y Combinator that funds tech start-up businesses. Altman reckons that we need to be cautious with the advancement of technology. He said:
These phones already control us.
The merge has begun—and a merge is our best scenario. Any version without a merge will have conflict: we enslave the AI or it enslaves us. The full-on-crazy version of the merge is we get our brains uploaded into the cloud. I’d love that.
We need to level up humans, because our descendants will either conquer the galaxy or extinguish consciousness in the universe forever. What a time to be alive!
Well that’s a nice thought.
Back to the computer simulation idea, it will be interesting to see if anything fabricates from this. Although the billionaires are currently unnamed, the research is definitely going ahead and a group of scientists really are attempting to discover ways of escaping the Matrix, which means there must be some weight in the theory. If they do find anything, I hope it doesn’t end in the destruction of mankind as we know it.
Having said that, it might be too late as it looks like Harambe’s already on the case. Watch out.
