Anthony Joshua Injuries Feared To Be Worse Than First Thought After Fatal Car Crash

Anthony Joshua was initially reported to have suffered only ‘minor’ injuries in the car crash that killed his two friends on Monday, but the latest is that may be in worse condition than what we’ve been led to believe.

According to MailOnline, someone ‘in AJ’s inner cicle’ has suggested the former world heavyweight champion sustained considerable damage to his ribs and knees.

He did look in a lot of pain and was wincing hard as he was removed from the crash site in Makun, Nigeria:

The idea is that Nigerian media downplayed his injuries to avoid further criticism to the on-site reaction.

According to witnesses, 36-year-old AJ was trapped in the Lexus for approximately 20 minutes before being rescued from the wreckage. Or rather, yanked out and parade around with phones in his face as his two friends, Sina Ghami and Kevin Latif Ayodele, lay dead in what remained of the vehicle.

Nigeria President, Bola Tinubu, revealed he had spoken to Joshua after the crash.

Tinubu said: ‘I wished him a full and speedy recovery, and prayed with him. AJ assured me he is receiving the best possible care.

‘I also spoke with his mother and prayed for her. She was deeply appreciative of the call.’

An Ogun police command statement read: ‘The vehicle conveying Mr Joshua, a Lexus SUV, was involved in the accident under circumstances that are currently being investigated. Joshua, seated in the rear of the vehicle, sustained minor injuries and is receiving medical attention with another injured person.

‘Tragically, two other passengers in the vehicle lost their lives at the scene. The deceased have been conveyed to Livewell hospital morgue, Sagamu. The Ogun state police command extends heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and assures the public that a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident has commenced.’

It’s hard not to think of a worst-case scenario where AJ never boxes again, but we can’t rule out the possibility until we have further clarification on the injuries he sustained.

There’s also the matter of the trauma he will be experiencing having survived a car crash that killed two of his close friends, and the toll that could have on his mental health.

Ultimately, getting back in the ring will be the last thing on his mind right now.

Get well soon AJ, and thoughts and prayers with the victims and their families.
