Moment Con Man Thought He Was Getting Out Of Prison Before Being Arrested At The Gate

A Gillingham con man’s welcome home party had to be cancelled after he was arrested just moments after leaving prison for stealing £15,000 from a pensioner.

Now I know we shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but if “untrustworthy” was a person, it would look something like this guy…

Amos Smith, 47, used a false name when carrying out ground clearance at the victim’s home in Twydall from May – June last year. He initially charged the old man, who was in his 70s, £11,000 for the work, but then returned to his address a month later demanding more cash.

He walked him to a local ATM and made him withdraw cash on 5 separate occasions, eventually taking a total £15,000 from him. Just for removing some trees and rubbish!

Sure enough, Smith had just got done serving a sentence for a similar offence.

This time, he admitted two counts of fraud by false representation, and was jailed for two years and eight months.

Hopefully the victim got his money back from the bank, and gets some joy out of watching this clip of Smith being re-arrested. Imagine – thinking you’re finally getting out of jail only to be immediately arrested as soon as you make it out the gate. Doesn’t get more demoralising than that, but it’s exactly what he deserves.
