Reform UK Says It Would Prioritise Opening Migrant Detention Centres In Areas That Vote For The Green Party

Reform UK are going full Trump with their trolling tactics – confirming a policy that would prioritise placing migrant detention centres in areas that vote for the Green Party.

Unveiling his ‘Vote Green, Get Illegals’ campaign this week, Nigel Farage argued that constituencies supporting “open borders” policies would be the first to host the facilities required for mass deportation.

Furthermore, the party confirmed that they would not put any detention centres in areas where a Reform UK MP is elected.

Not sure Farage and co fully thought this through though, as critics pointed out many of their own backers live in areas which might ultimately vote for another party, such as the Greens.

The Green Party denounced the plan as “performative cruelty” and “abhorrent,” with Labour officials describing it as an “affront to democracy” and “grotesque,” arguing it seeks to punish voters for their political choices.

The policy announcement comes ahead of Thursday’s council elections, where both Reform and the Greens are expected to win big, whereas Labour faces potentially disastrous results.

Reform aims to build capacity to detain 24,000 migrants at any one time, with plans to deport up to 288,000 people annually.

The party proposes new legislation to give the Home Secretary emergency powers to override local council opposition to these facilities

Home Affairs spokesperson Zia Yusuf described the move as the “fairest approach to ensuring democratic consent,” stating that if voters support Green migration policies, they should host the necessary infrastructure.

Bad news for places like Brighton and Bristol and university cities around the country if this comes into fruition. Imagine being staunchly anti-deportations, only to then have a Reform government build a migrant detention centre in your backyard?

Classic Trump-style “own the libs” politics with zero thought given to the practicalities. Regardless of what you think of the migrant situation, it should honestly be pretty disturbing for anyone who respects the democratic process. Should not be punishing, or threatening to punish, specific areas just because they didn’t vote for you.
