Moment Met Police Officer Almost Catches BBC Reporter Secretly Filming Him

The best part of the Panorama exposé on the Metropolitan police the other night was this clip featuring PC Phil Neilson, who almost clocks that Rory Bibb, a journalist posing as a fellow officer, is secretly filming him.

The pair meet up for a drink while off-duty, and PC Neilson is initially wary, but by the end of it is telling Bibb how much he trust him to keep their conversations private. Watch below:

I mean, that neon sign behind is just perfect, isn’t it? ‘Know your crowd’, indeed!

Half-joking, Neilson says of the idea to meet up: ‘This is a sting. This is DPS (Directorate of Professional Standards). This is DPS trying to catch me out or something.

‘I was literally thinking I ain’t gonna come cos I can’t get in contact with him, it could be a sting.’

During their chat, captured on hidden cameras, PC Neilson says a few things he really shouldn’t be saying. At one point, he describes what he would do to a detainee who overstayed their visa.

He said: ‘F***ing, either put a bullet through his head or deport him. Because we’re paying for it. He was an overstayer.

Neilson said that ‘a revolver would be so nice’, adding that the ‘ones that shag, rape women, you’d do the c**k and let them bleed out’.

He added that Algerians were ‘scum’, Somalians were ‘f**king ugly’ and added: ‘I think any foreign person is the worst to deal with.’

He also tells Bibb about tormenting a 17-year-old autistic suspect by pushing on pressure points on his body while in a police van.

He advises Bibb to watch who he shares certain views with, saying: ‘Know your crowd.

‘So, like, I would say I feel comfortable with you that I can say some stuff that are a bit out there. And I will trust you not to go and be like “Oi, this guy Phil, yeah”.’

Imagine how silly he felt watching this all back on BBC the other night? He could got played like an absolute fiddle by undercover reporter Bibb and took the bait hook, line and sinker. All Bibb had to do was get a few drinks in and Neilson was like putty in his hands. He’ll never trust another human being again… well, unless you get him drunk, maybe.
