Weird Animal Experiments - Zombie Cat

In the early 1800’s humans were pretty obsessed with raising things from the dead. German scientist Karl August Weinhold was once such scientist. He reckoned that the human brain was like a battery and thought that a simple experiment with a cute little kitty would prove his point.

Karl decapitated cats and plugged them in, essentially. He went one step further with another experiment; he spooned out the cat’s cerebellum and removed the spinal cord from a live cat then filled the cavities with amalgam (silver and zinc).

Weinhold explained his findings:

[The] animal lost all life, all sensory functions, voluntary muscles movement, and eventually its pulse. Afterward, I filled both cavities with the aforementioned amalgam. For almost 20 minutes, the animal got into such a life-tension that it raised its head, opened its eyes . . . finally got up with obvious effort, hopped around, and sank down exhausted.

It didn’t work. Good try though Karl.
