Democratic politician Zohran Mamdani seems like a stand-up guy with a good head on his shoulders, but he did absolutely no favours for the ‘weak socialist’ stereotype when he was peer-pressured into attempting a bench press at the annual Men’s Day in Brooklyn at the weekend.

Mamdani, 33, struggled to execute a single unassisted bench press rep of just 135lbs (60kg), but at least his spotter got a few curls in:

Not great really. It also provided his political opponents with the easiest lay-up ever, gifting him the nickname “Mamscrawny”:

Now obviously, whether you’re a fan of Zohran Mamdani’s policies or not, his inability to bench 135lbs probably won’t make you feel any differently. Even still, it’s not a great look. I mean, clearly the guy does not go to the gym at all, but if you’re going to attempt something like this in public, you absolutely have to be sure that you can pull it off.

After all, I doubt Trump could have ever benched 135lbs in his lifetime, but at least he’s smart enough not to try in front of hundreds of people and millions more watching on the internet.

Not to worry though, a couple months in the gym and Mamdani will be benching 135lbs in no time. Surely he has to start hitting the weights and put this whole thing right the next time the opportunity presents itself.

Either way, Mamdani feels confident about his prospects of winning the mayoral race and governing New York next year, saying:

“It is such a pleasure to be here, and I want to say thank you to the organizers for celebrating what makes this community beautiful. I look forward to being your next mayor, next year.”
