I’ve always been perplexed by people that wanted to grow their fingernails as long as possible – there’s definitely a subculture for this, we’ve featured it on the site before – but I suppose you just have to rate someone for committing to something like that for so long, even if it is kinda gross.

Ayanna Williams is the world record holder for the longest fingernails ever, having grown them to 24 feet and 0.7 inches following a 30 year long commitment, but this week she decided to cut them all off and bring an end to three decades of hard work. They were removed from her fingers with one cut of a double barrel chain saw in footage that you can see below.

Williams had this to say about finally cutting her nails after so long:

With or without my nails, I will still be the queen.

My nails don’t make me, I make my nails!

Do what you want to do! Let everyone be themselves.

If you want to grow your nails long, do it!

I’m so, so ready for a new life.

Kinda inspirational I suppose, but mainly just weird. I guess she’ll always have her place in history and can now being a new chapter of her life as a normal person which is probably going to be quite the transition for her. We wish her all the best.

For more of the same, check out our A-Z of the weirdest longest stuff in history. Quite a few different rivals to Ayanna there.
