Crazy story out of New South Wales, Australia, this week as a young lady set fire to her longtime friend after he made a ‘misogynistic’ remark to her during a house party where they had been drinking.

Corbie Jean Walpole, 24, pleaded guilty in an Albury District Court to the arson attack on Jake Loader, 23, saying she felt “overwhelmed” by his comment after he had already been antagonising her all night.

Jake apparently told Corbie she should “stay in the kitchen where you belong” if she couldn’t handle drinking with the boys, which sent Corbie into an absolute rage.

Corbie Jean Walpole, 24, pleaded guilty to lighting her friend on fire after he made a misogynistic remark, according to a report.

She grabbed a gallon of gasoline from the garage and doused Jake in it – before threatening him with a lighter.

Jake, who was drunk and on cocaine, responded: “Go on, do it.” Which probably wasn’t the greatest idea in hindsight.

Corbie then touched him with the flame, setting Jake ablaze. His friends heard him screaming and tried to put out the flames that were melting his shirt with a dog bed, before he was thrown into a pool.

The poor guy suffered third-degree burns to 55% of his body, was put in a medically induced coma for eight days, and ended up losing some of his sweat glands. He required 10 operations and spent 74 days in a burn unit at a Melbourne hospital.

Jake Loader, 23, suffered burns to 55% of his body and was in a medically induced coma for eight days after the attack.

Jake can now no longer step outside into the sun because of the extensive epidermal damage, which must be an absolute nightmare, especially for a young man living in Australia.

Corbie told the court she regretted the act, and mentioned she’d been abusing drink and drugs since a break-up in 2022.

She said that she had been ‘pushed to the edge’ by her friend that night, as he had tried to wrestle her and was being continuously antagonistic.

“To this day I feel horrible, remorseful, guilty for what I have done to Jake, not only Jake but his family, his loved ones, his mutual friends … anyone who has been impacted in this entire case. I find it very hard to believe the injuries that were caused was from my doing. I would do anything to go back in time.”

I bet. I mean, we’ve all had hangover fear before, but I can’t imagine waking up in the morning and thinking “oh sh1t, did I set my friend on fire last night?”. Apparently on the day of the incident, Corbie had been drinking for about 12 hours straight and consumed between 23 and 35 drinks, as well as being on cocaine. I don’t think I’ve ever partied that hard in my life!

In the end, Corbie Walpole was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in prison. The court head she had quit drugs and alcohol and shown ‘good rehabilitation prospects.’ She will be eligible for parole in November 2029.

Meanwhile, her victim will suffer the consequences for the rest of his life. Absolutely gutted for the guy.
