There are a lot of animals out there that I definitely don’t want to mess with and pretty near the top of the list are alligators, but if one of them had eaten my dog alive then I might have to end up doing what the man in this video ended up doing. Just not sure if I would have the guts though to be honest.

The clip is taken from Estero, Florida and was filmed by a wildlife camera in the area before it ended up making its way onto TikTok. The video shows a guy named Richard Wilbanks, jumping into a pond and wrestling open an alligator’s jaw after one of them snatched his dog Gunner and dragged it into said pond. Here’s what he had to say about the incident:

My instincts and adrenaline kicked in when I saw the gator snatch Gunner.

He just came out like a missile.

They’re like children to us, so there was no second thought whatsoever.

He had one little puncture wound, and … my hands were just chewed up.

Fortunately, I was in a position that I was able to save Gunner’s life.

Fuck me. That video might not be that close up but you can tell how messed up the situation was by the way that the dog is whimpering and and the guttural cries coming from the guy as he desperately tries to wrestle open the gator’s mouth. Not surprised his hands were all chewed up after that as it must have been quite the ordeal.

Gotta hand it to the guy for coming through for this dog there, although maybe it’s different if you live in Florida and this is just the kind of thing that happens on the regular because there are so many gators out there screwing everyone around. Seems like things are completely different down there, so maybe actions like this aren’t that big a deal and are fairly common? Just speculating out here.

For more of the same, check out this guy going swimming with gators and getting bitten by one of them. What an idiot.
