Big news here today that’s sure to piss a lot of people off as it’s just been announced that ‘political activist’ Tommy Robinson’s Facebook and Instagram accounts have both been deleted after the platforms decided that his actions on them constituted opinions which fostered intimidation or exclusion in society.

Here’s what Facebook (who also own Instagram, as if you didn’t know) said in their statement:

Tommy Robinson’s Facebook page has repeatedly broken these standards, posting material that uses dehumanising language and calls for violence targeted at Muslims. He has also behaved in ways that violate our policies around organised hate.

As a result, in accordance with our policies, we have removed Tommy Robinson’s official Facebook Page and Instagram profile. This is not a decision we take lightly, but individuals and organisations that attack others on the basis of who they are have no place on Facebook or Instagram.

Obviously Robinson wasn’t very happy about this, responding with the following statement of his own:

This is in response to my expose documentary called Panadrama, which exposed the establishment working with Hope not Hate, working along with the media, in order to bring me down and destroy me.

Now they have realised that that has not worked, they’re working with the tech giants to remove us completely – where is free speech? I’ve breached no laws of Facebook, everyone is going to know that I’ve breached no rules, what I’ve done is shown people the truth and that is what they are removing, the truth. People will still find me.

People will be astonished by this censorship, especially witnessing it in response to my expose documentary.

I mean I don’t really know what to say about this. I was kinda excited to see Robinson’s expose movie when it was unveiled on Saturday at Manchester but it just sounded like it was a complete and utter joke from what I’ve read about it. Classic Tommy Robinson really – all talk and no trousers.

There’s obviously a story here about free speech and what should or should be allowed and whether or not what Robinson is doing does constitute hate speech or not, but I’m not going to get into the middle of it. Think Tommy is probably overreacting about the tech giants trying to shut him down, but I guess there is some element of truth in it. He probably deserves a lot of the hate he brings upon himself though.

Sadly I’m also sure this isn’t the last we will hear from Robinson either, even if his primary methods of communication are going to be cut off. Watch this space.

For more of the same, check out Tommy’s response to the recent racist video of him bragging about doing drugs. A lot going on with him right now.
