Tom Hardy has never seemed like the most outwardly of personalities, and this seems to have rubbed a bunch of his co-stars and fans up the wrong way, with stories from Patrick Stewart, Charlize Theron, and more which we’ll transcribe below.

Most recently, Tom Hardy was reportedly being a bit weird on the set of his new film Bikeriders. The photographer behind the 1968 book that the film is based on has revealed that there was one strict rule on set: he wasn’t allowed to look at Tom Hardy.

82-year-old filmmaker and photographer Danny Lyon says he had been excited to meet Hardy on set (seeing as he was the leading man in a movie based on his book, and all), but Tom Hardy was not interested in meeting him, and what’s more, requested that Danny not even look at him. The poor guy had to hide behind a tree just so he could get a peek.

Danny says: ‘They tried to keep me away but I finally get there. It’s f***ing freezing. I just want to meet Tom Hardy. He gets on set and they say, ‘You can’t look at him’. I said, ‘What do you mean? Why can’t I look at him?’ They say, ‘Oh, he doesn’t like it’. So they make me hide behind a tree and all this bulls**t.’

Another octogenarian who Tom Hardy upset was Patrick Stewart, who says he struggled to warm up to the Mad Max star when they filmed Star Trek: Nemesis together, in which Hardy played villain and Picard’s clone, Shinzon.

In Making It So: A Memoir, the legendary actor wrote: ‘I didn’t have a single exciting scene to play, and the actor who portrayed the movie’s villain, Shinzon, was an odd, solitary young man from London. His name was Tom Hardy.’

Patrick claimed: ‘Tom wouldn’t engage with any of us on a social level. Never said, “Good morning,” never said, “Goodnight,” and spent the hours he wasn’t needed on set in his trailer with his girlfriend.’

‘On the evening Tom wrapped his role, he characteristically left without ceremony or niceties, simply walking out of the door. As it closed, I said quietly to [costars Brent Spiner and Jonathan Frakes], “And there goes someone I think we shall never hear of again.”’

Seems he was wrong in one sense, as Tom Hardy obviously went on to become mega famous and successful. Still, he remained aloof on set, culminating in a fiery argument with Charlize Theron on the set of Mad Max: Fury Road.

According to Kyle Buchanan’s book Blood, Sweat & Chrome: The Wild And True Story Of Mad Max: Fury Road, there was one day where Tom Hardy’s tardiness caused Charlize Theron to go ballistic at him in front of everyone.

On a day that filming was due to start at 8am, Charlize got her makeup and costume sorted and headed into the film’s War Rig, where Tom was nowhere to be seen.

‘Gets to nine o’clock, still no Tom,’ Goellnicht revealed. ‘”Charlize, do you want to get out of the War Rig and walk around, or do you want to . . .”

‘”No, I’m going to stay here.” She was really going to make a point. She didn’t go to the bathroom, didn’t do anything. She just sat in the War Rig.’

She remained in the vehicle for four hours until the Dark Knight Rises actor arrived for filming at around 11am, prompting her to spring out of the rig and begin swearing.

‘Fine the f**king c*** a hundred thousand dollars for every minute that he’s held up this crew,’ she reportedly shouted and added: ‘How disrespectful you are!’

Mark continued: ‘She was right. Full rant. She screams it out. It’s so loud, it’s so windy — he might’ve heard some of it, but he charged up to her up and went, “What did you say to me?”’

Thankfully Tom Hardy did not beat the sh*t out of Charlize Theron right there and then, but according to the camera operator, he seemed ‘quite aggressive,’ and his co-star ‘really felt threatened.’

Yikes. So, blanking an 82-year-old man who traveled for miles to meet him, having no interest in getting to know Patrick Stewart, and zero respect for Charlize Theron and the crew waiting for him on set of Mad Max every day. He just wants to be left alone unless he absolutely has to see you/work with you. A classic introvert! Although I guess it’s one thing to be an introvert and quite another to completely ignore and disrespect your co-workers.

Still, if he’s spending all that alone time to come up with new accents that no one has ever heard of or can understand, then I guess that’s a fantastic use of anyone’s time. Be yourself, Tom Hardy! It’s all any of us can ever really hope to be.
