I was hoping that after a weekend of the country getting battered by Storm Ciara I might be able to bring you some better news about the Coronavirus epidemic that has started to affect it as well, but unfortunately that isn’t the case as the number of confirmed infected has doubled over the weekend.

Sure, this means that only eight people total are now affected, but if that number continues to grow and/or double then it could get very serious very quickly. The four new victims were infected at a ski chalet in France after a business man stopped by on his way back to Britain from Singapore. They all now reside in Brighton, so maybe invest in one of those masks if you’re from the area.

Chief Medical Officer Chris said the following about the spread of the virus:

Four further patients in England have tested positive for novel coronavirus, bringing the total number of cases in the UK to eight.

The new cases are all known contacts of a previously confirmed UK case, and the virus was passed on in France.

Experts at Public Health England continue to work hard tracing patient contacts from the UK cases. They successfully identified these individuals and ensured the appropriate support was provided.

The patients have been transferred to specialist NHS centres at Guy’s and St Thomas’ and The Royal Free hospitals, and we are now using robust infection control measures to prevent further spread of the virus.

The NHS is extremely well prepared to manage these cases and treat them, and we are working quickly to identify any further contacts these patients have had.

Let’s hope he knows what he’s talking about because every time you hear about the Coronavirus it seems to be getting worse. Scary.
