Looking to recreate some of the magic they made in ‘Gladiator’ all those years back, Ridley Scott and Joaquin Phoenix have teamed up for ‘Napoleon’ and from the looks of the trailer, it’s about as epic as you would imagine.
If there’s one thing Ridley Scott has always been a master of, it’s how to make use of a big Hollywood budget – even at 85 years old:
Exciting stuff. The only thing I’m wondering though is that at 5’8, is Joaquin Phoenix quite short enough to play Napoleon, who was more around 5’5? Maybe not, but he has that death stare that is depicted in so many Napoleon portraits and is one of the finest actors of our generation, at the end of the day. So there’s probably not many roles out there that he couldn’t knock out the park.
Pretty cool to have another movie coming out that looks like it belongs in cinemas, rather than going straight to Netflix or whatever. Between Napoleon and Oppenheimer and Killers of the Flower Moon, it feels like a good time to be a movie buff.
