There’s few things more terrifying than the idea of an amusement park ride malfunctioning in mid-air and catapulting/slamming you into oblivion, but that’s why you expect the maintenance work and safety checks on these things to be top-notch so these kinds of incidents are thankfully rare.

Unfortunately, they do happen, as this group found out when they were slammed into the ground after the ‘360 Degrees’ ride at Green Mountain Park in Taif, Saudi Arabia, malfunctioned the other night. And by ‘malfunctioned’ we mean the ride broke in half mid-swing:

Yikes. Multiple sources confirm 23 injuries, with 3-4 critically hurt, but thankfully no deaths. All things considered, they’re lucky the ride malfunctioned at the moment it did rather than when they were upside down. We could very easily be looking at multiple gruesome deaths otherwise.

Although some people are suggesting that maybe we haven’t got the full story yet on that front:

Local authorities have launched a formal investigation into the cause of the mechanical failure. Makes you appreciate how the UK puts so much emphasis on health and safety measures, although you’d think the Saudis would be on top of that too. Then again, I’d bet their ambulances turned up a lot quicker than ones in the UK would have done.

Either way, count me out.
