Games of Thrones legend Sophie Turner AKA Sansa Stark is playing Lara Croft in Amazon Prime’s upcoming upcoming Tomb Raider series – here’s the big reveal:

Well there’s no denying it – that’s Sophie Turner in a Lara Croft costume. Apparently Tomb Raider fans are not happy with it though? Even the official GameStop account had a moan about it:

And some of the reaction from others:

Now obviously it’s a bit harsh to compare Sophie Stark’s Lara Croft to the Angelina Jolie version; no one is ever coming close to the original.
But maybe we should wait until 2027 when this new series is out to judge it properly?
After all, Turner says it’s been a grueling process getting into shape to play the character: “We’ve been doing eight hours a day, five days a week since February last year of training, so it’s been a lot.”
To be fair, it’s not like playing Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones can prepare you to play a bad*ss female archeologist going on crazy adventures and discovering ancient secrets while murdering bad guys in the process.

Can you recall Sansa Stark doing anything “bad*ss” in Game of Thrones? All she did was mope around and change her hair colour. In fairness, she was perfect as the meek teenage Sansa who’s kind of lost in King’s Landing and trying to make sense of everything happening around it, but once the character developed and had to toughen up and show some teeth, it just did not feel authentic at all.
Not to mention – she then landed a big action role as Jean Grey in the new X-Men movie and was completely flat and uninspiring (in our humble opinion).
So yeah, even before the teaser image was revealed, I just couldn’t see Sophie Turner being the lead in her own action series, especially in such a prestigious role as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider. She is British though, will give her that.
