Just a heads up to everyone out there trying to give their kids/themselves a merry Christmas this year by having a PS5 under the Christmas tree. You might want to manage your expectations a little bit because according to Sony CEO Jim Ryan, “absolutely everything is sold” and supply issues won’t be resolved anytime soon.

Ryan told Russian news outlet TASS:

Everything is sold. Absolutely everything is sold.

I’ve spent much of the last year trying to be sure that we can generate enough demand for the product. And now in terms of my executive bandwidth, I’m spending a lot more time on trying to increase supply to meet that demand.

Who’s to blame for the supply shortage? You guessed it – that bastard COVID:

Ryan added that the COVID-19 pandemic had made things “challenging from the production side,” with Sony workers not being able to get into its factories in Asia during lockdowns. “I wouldn’t plan on doing another big console launch in the midst of a global pandemic,” he said. “And I wouldn’t recommend it to anybody else.”

So it looks like your only hope now is to check out resellers charging you an extortionate amount to save Christmas, or hope another stockist or online retailer will surprise us and not sell out 0.0001 seconds after they put a new batch of PS5s on sale. Hey, you’ve got no one to blame but yourself if you didn’t pre-order. Especially if you’re not willing to put in the effort that others are:

As it stands, seems you can kiss your chances of securing a PS5 goodbye for the next month or so, and while Covid is mostly to blame you also have to give a big hearty “fuck you” to the bots and resellers buying up all the limited consoles within seconds of launch.

You’d think that would be a fairly easy issue for Sony or the retailers to sort out, right? Except they probably don’t give a shit as long as they sell everything out. What about all the rest of us who now have to play Cyberpunk 2077 on the PS4 rather than the next gen version? FML mate.

Things are so bad that even Amazon delivery drivers are keeping PS5 deliveries for themselves. Worth getting fired over, apparently.
