It’s not exactly a secret that there’s a major problem with knife crime in this country at the moment, but when you see it in action it becomes all the more terrifying and real.

The video below comes from CCTV camera footage from Marcus Lipton Youth Centre in Brixton on the night of February 21st when Rishon Florant, 17, and Chibuzo Ukonu, 18 both stormed the place and hacked 23 year old Glendon Spence to death. The pair can be seen running into the youth centre before cornering Spence around a table tennis table before stabbing him in the thigh and leaving him to bleed out.

Obviously this is pretty distressing stuff so make sure you want to watch it before pressing play:

Damn. It really is horrific to think you could just be minding your own business playing table tennis in the youth club and then someone runs in and stabs someone right in front of you. Grim.

Both Florant and Ukonu – who are both from Loughton in Essex – tried to flea the country following the murder but they were both picked up by the cops and arrested. Jonathan St Marie works at the youth centre and described the night of the attack during the trial:

He (Mr Spence) fell onto his side. He rolled on his bum as if to get up at which point the assailant began thrusting at him. ‘I believe it was in his right hand. He was stabbing down towards where Glendon was lying.

Glendon was on his back trying to us his feet to kick away at the knife that coming at him.

His hand was going over the top towards Glendon’s groin area.

Ukonu then approached the victim and began stabbing his ‘lower torso area.

Both of the knives were between 12 and 18 inches long.

I overheard a group of teenagers talking excitedly about the stabbing and Florant was identified by his street name, ‘R1’.

heard one of them say something along the lines of “I can’t believe it was him. He wasn’t wearing a bally (balaclava). I can’t believe he would do that.”

‘ wasn’t necessarily listening to their conversation, but this comment stood out among all the other ones.

Needless to say, both men were found guilty yesterday and will be sentenced on October 10th. Hope they go down for a while for the disgusting and cowardly attack. Hopefully this will discourage other knife crime in this country, but I feel like it’s going to be a long time before that isn’t a problem anymore.
