The law finally caught up with Sepp Blatter and the corruption that surrounded FIFA last year and now – as you might expect with someone as snaky as Blatter – he’s pulling out a bunch of lines to try and deflect blame from himself and to other areas of the organisation.

Blatter has attempted this by claiming in an interview with Argentine newspaper La Nacion that at least one Champion’s League draw was rigged. Here’s what he had to say:

La Nacion asked Blatter: ‘Can you cheat in a tournament draw, even though millions are watching on screen?’

Yes! I saw it with my own eyes and it was like cheating. It was for a European competition.

Only one team has managed that. It was an Italian side.

You can see the balls that are drawn identified either by making them hot, or if they have been cooled. I was a witness.

I’ve never drawn lots! Other presidents did. They have taken the balls themselves from the pot. I was clean to the last.

I have never violated the criminal law. I have a clear conscience.

Yeah, sure you do Sepp, we believe you. I mean even if that’s true, you really have to ask yourself what the hell he was doing as president of FIFA for 18 years if he was letting this go on right in his back yard, only bothering to mention it now that he’s no longer the president and under investigation for corruption.

Surely he’s going to have to go on record and testify as to who that was now as well, which is probably going to open another can of worms for himself and FIFA. Not the smartest move really.

Here’s comedian Lee Nelson throwing a wad of notes in Blatter’s face during a FIFA press conference.
